The CogWorks Lab is a wholly owned subsidiary of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute's newest department — Cognitive Science. Founded in 2002, we are funded by NSF, ONR, AFOSR, DARPA, and ARDA (see the list of Sponsors below for more information). We currently consist of eight doctoral students, ten undergraduates (mostly double majors in Computer Science and Psychology); one post-doctoral researcher, and two faculty members (see People for more details). To help us conduct our research, we have four experimental labs, three eye trackers, a slew of powerful Macintoshes, and even the odd PC.

Our offices and research labs are located in Carnegie Hall (between the new EMPAC and the Pittsburgh buildings) at the Western end of the RPI Campus, overlooking the Hudson valley and the city of Troy, NY. (Map on RPI site.)

• 'How can I learn more about your current research?'
  A good way of getting to know our research is to participate in one of our experiments. If you are a RPI student, you can create an account and sign-up for experiments on the web-based Experimetrix software system. Alternatively, you can always contact us to learn about current opportunities for research participation.

• 'How can I join the CogWorks Laboratories?'
  By contacting us to see whether your and our needs have something in common.

• 'I have an idea which seems to fit with your research interests. Whom should I talk to?'
  Feel free to email any of us — or simply step into our offices.

• 'I am studying Engineering/Computer Science/Philosophy/Arts/etc. — can I still play & work with you?'
  As Cognitive Science is a multidisciplinary endeavour, we like to understand and incorporate various views and disciplines. Indeed our own backgrounds comprise Psychology, Computer Science, and Linguistics. As we cooperate with Engineers, Programmers and Philosophers we are always intrigued to learn of different perspectives.
