Welcome to the land of integrated cognitive systems, computational cognitive modeling, and cognitive engineering! At the CogWorks Labs we are interested in basic and applied research that leads to understanding the interplay of cognition, perception, and action in routine interactive behavior.

> next >

These interests entail understanding top-down versus bottom-up control of behavior, the role of implicit versus explicit knowledge, internal versus external representations, and knowledge in-the-head versus knowledge in-the-world. Oh yes—in case you were wondering—we define "cognitive engineering" as cognitive science theory applied to human factors issues.

This website is intended, first and foremost, as a shared space for members of the CogWorks Labs. It will help us keep track of what we are doing, what we have done, and why we are doing it. We also intend it to be a resource for the curious. If you are interested in joining us as a grad student, undergrad, or post-doc then there should be sufficient information here for you to get a sense of what we do and the fun we have doing it. If you are curious about our research then here you will find detailed descriptions and reprints of our publications. If you are curious about Cognitive Science at Rensselaer you can attend any of our current events or visit the Cognitive Science Department website. If you are curious about Cognitive Science in general, see our lists of links.
